Maturity

Goals are wonderful things. Dreams are too.

But one day, you're gonna wake up and realize: “Oh crud! I’m almost done with high school and have no idea what to do with my life!” And then you scramble around like a madperson, getting your grades in order and scampering off to college in the hopes that SOMETHING will pique your interest and you won’t end up living in a van by the side of a river eating government cheese! (Matt Foley had some very good points)

Or, you might be like me and know exactly what you want to do, but you are a lazy person who needs to get their butt into gear and actually make something of their lives instead of just dreaming about it. Maybe, like me, you have someone in your life who has greatly motivated you to be a functioning adult (thank you, Micah) and inspires you to put in the work required to be said functioning adult.

MAYBE, like me, you’ve just submitted your first job resume and have your fingers (and toes) crossed that it will go well and you’ll get the job.

Whatever scenario you find yourself living in, you're gonna grow up and be an adult eventually. Aging is mandatory. Maturing is optional.

I’ll confess, I’m often a procrastinator, a slob, and an unproductive lump on the couch. But especially in the last few months, I have been putting forth good effort to mature and actually do things that will help me become a functioning and useful adult. I wanna be useful to the people around me. I wanna write bestselling books and have ENAMEL PINS of my characters.

But first, I gotta graduate high school, become employed, and get my crap together. Not necessarily in that order. And I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna be productive! I’m gonna—hold up. Instead of listing all the things I'm gonna do, I'm just gonna go do them.

I’m gonna go do the things I said I’m gonna do!

(In all seriousness though, I did apply for a job. And I'm really hoping I get it, because that'll be a great step towards growing in maturity. But hey, even if I don't, there are plenty of other jobs out there. I'll just keep trying until I get one. And in the meantime, I'm gonna work on my books. Girl got goals, y'know?)

The Wonders of Caffeinated Bean Water

Well, I was going to write an amazing article about how being in the Appalachian mountains inspires me a lot when it comes to writing, but it turns out I got nothing done on this trip, so forget that.
